Not only did 5.11 manufacture the very first pair of tactical pants, it also makes some of the most recognizable tactical pants in the industry. The brand set out to reach all-new heights once again with its latest design, the 5.11 Apex Pants. The trousers are currently available in black, khaki, battle brown, TDU green and dark navy. Two more colors, storm and tundra, will be available come January 2016. We broke down the key components of the style so you know exactly what you’re in for with the Apex.

Pockets

What sets the Apex apart from other pants in the tactical market is that it’s unparalleled in thoughtful storage solutions for on-the-job equipment. Within the pant, the wearer can hold up to six AR-15 magazines at one time. Two of these mag pockets are found inconspicuously above each back-seat pocket. This low-profile location isn’t found in any other tactical pant. Two zippered thigh pockets also contain internal compartments for magazine storage. There are also hidden handcuff pockets in the waistband and the cuff of the pants, plus a flex-cuff pocket built alongside the waistband. Add in the deep front and back pockets, and you’ve got an impressive 12-pocket design.

Fabric & Fit

The Apex pant is made from the same proprietary Flex-Tac mechanical stretch canvas as 5.11’s top-selling Stryke pant. As its name suggests, the fabric is already incredibly flexible. A full-gusseted crotch and articulated knees only add to the mobility of the pant. The stretch continues with a comfort waistband ideal for CCW. It’s designed to fit exceptionally, with a reverse-seam construction that prevents pockets from billowing outward. The pants are topped off with a Teflon treatment for the ultimate in stain, dirt and water resistance.

Durability

5.11 has been in the tactical pant game long enough to know how to make a guaranteed long-lasting garment. The tear-resistant ripstop weave and triple-stitching make for a rough-and-tough pair of pants. High-stress areas get the bartack treatment, a specialized stitch that offers additional reinforcement. Plus, the double-reinforced seat prevents unfortunate crotch blowouts. Every possible prevention for unwanted wear-and-tear has been implemented with the Apex.
